Export Ref Points: Copy Shape Points from Floors, Roofs and Topography in Revit

By

You shaped a slab to the scan, and now the topping, the ceiling or the terrain next to it needs the same shape. Export Ref Points lets you copy shape points: it places a ZetaRefPoint at every shape point of a floor, roof or toposolid.

Export Ref Points: copy shape points of a Revit floor, roof or toposolid

Why copy shape points

  • Reuse a shape. Apply the same levels to another floor, roof or toposolid with Floor, Roof or Topo By Points.
  • See the levels. The points show exactly where the element was shaped, so you can check or adjust them.
  • Rebuild after changes. If an element has to be recreated, its shape points are not lost.

Steps

  1. Click Export Ref Points (Zeta BIM tab › PointCloud Tools).
  2. Pick a floor, a footprint roof or a toposolid (topography surface in Revit 2021–2023).
  3. A ZetaRefPoint is placed at every shape point of the element.

Then apply the shape elsewhere

  1. Run Floor By Points, Roof By Points or Topo By Points.
  2. Pick the target element and select the new ZetaRefPoints.

Good to know

  • Only shape points are copied. A flat element without shape points gives no points.
  • The ZetaRefPoint family is loaded into the project the first time.
  • All points are added in one step, so a single Undo removes them.
  • Remove the points when you are done with Cleanup ZetaBIM Data.

FAQ

Can I copy the shape from a floor to a toposolid?
Yes. Copy shape points from the floor, then select them with Topo By Points on the toposolid. Points outside the target’s boundary are skipped.

Does it change the source element?
No. The source floor, roof or toposolid stays as it is.
