ID Element Link: Get the Element ID in a Revit Link

ID Element Link: Revit link element ID

Coordination often needs the ID of an element in another discipline’s model, but Revit’s Properties only show the link itself. ID Element Link gets the Revit link element ID with one click.

ID Element Link copies the Revit link element ID

A linked model is read-only in your project, so you cannot open its elements’ properties. Yet clash reports, RFIs and coordination meetings all need to point at one exact element. The element ID is the simplest way to do that, because it never changes while the element exists.

  • Precise coordination notes. Tell the other team exactly which element to fix.
  • Find it in their model. The other team can use Manage › Select by ID with the copied number.
  • No opening the link. You stay in your own model.

Steps

  1. Click ID Element Link (Zeta BIM tab › Manager).
  2. Hover over the linked model and pick the element (press Tab to cycle if the whole link is highlighted).
  3. A message confirms "Copied to Clipboard". Paste the ID with Ctrl+V.

Good to know

  • The ID is the element’s ID inside the linked model, not the ID of the link instance.
  • Nothing in the project is changed.
  • To report issues with images and assignees, see Model Check.

FAQ

Can I use the ID in Navisworks or clash reports?
Yes. The number is the Revit element ID, which also appears in Navisworks properties of Revit elements.

Does it work with nested links?
Pick elements of links placed directly in your model.
