Color Mode PCL: Change Point Cloud Colors in Revit in One Click

By

Different tasks need different point cloud colors: real colors to read signs, intensity to see edges, elevation to read levels. Color Mode PCL switches the point cloud color mode in Revit in one click.

Color Mode PCL switches the point cloud color mode in Revit

Why switch the point cloud color mode quickly

In Revit you would open Visibility/Graphics, go to the Point Clouds tab and change the override for each scan. With Color Mode PCL it is one click for all point clouds in the view.

Steps

  1. Open the view.
  2. Open Color Mode PCL (Zeta BIM tab › Visibility).
  3. Choose a mode. All point clouds in the view change.

Which point cloud color mode to use

Mode Best for
Elevation PCL Reading levels and slopes in plan.
Single Color PCL A calm background while modeling, so your elements stand out.
Intensity PCL Seeing edges, joints and markings, even where colors are poor.
RGB PCL The real colors captured by the scanner (no override).
Normals PCL Telling walls, floors and ceilings apart by the direction they face.

Tip for modeling

Use Single Color while you model, so your elements stand out from the scan. Then switch to RGB or Intensity when you need to read details such as signs, joints or window frames.

Good to know

  • The change applies to the active view only; other views keep their settings.
  • If a view template controls point cloud overrides, change the template instead.
  • To hide the point cloud completely, use Show/Hide PCL.
